The Time for Public Protests and Tea Parties is Now

It seems like the finale of the health care restructuring debate is now upon us. I do not hold out much hope that any restrictions from the reconciliation process will stop the legislation. No, the main hope is to prevent a majority of House members from supporting the passage of the Senate bill in the House. The problem is that the Speaker has lots of power to twist arms and President Obama has the power to promise goodies to House members who may lose their seats. Obama will only be too happy to emulate consequential President Lyndon Johnson, who twisted arms and offered goodies to get the 1964 Civil Rights Act passed.
The main hope now is to convince the Democratic House members -- both the ones who perceive themselves at risk and the ones who currently do not -- that there will be severe consequences from voting for this monstrosity.
