Who are these Ron Paul voters? Are they really Republican leaders? He is not the one we want for our leader.NEW ORLEANS -- Mitt Romney won the Southern Republican Leadership Conference straw poll today with 24% of the vote -- garnering 1 more vote than Texas Rep. Ron Paul. Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich tied for third with 18%.
There were a total of 1,806 votes cast. Romney received 439 votes, Paul 438.
Update
I feel better after reading this from Ed Morrissey:
Everyone in the Media Filing Center expected Ron Paul to win the straw poll — and he almost did. Despite bringing a reported 900 delegates to the Southern Republican Leadership Conference, Paul got 438 votes, while Mitt Romney edged him by a single vote, with 439.
Well, that explains it. Now, don't you feel better, too. It reminds me of Obama with the Iowa caucus.
