GM announces major investment in auto plant (in Mexico)

That's Government Motors gratitude for you! From the Wall Street Journal:
U.S. automobile giant General Motors Co. said Tuesday it plans to invest close to $500 million in its Ramos Arizpe plant in northern Mexico to produce a new line of engines as well as a new vehicle...

"We estimate that these technologies allow for a 9% improvement in fuel efficiency from current engines," Lieblein said, adding that the investment will directly create 390 jobs in Coahuila state, where Ramos Arizpe is located.
Another $215 million will go toward upgrading the factory's production lines to build a new vehicle for the domestic and international markets, she said, noting that the investment will be key to maintaining 400 jobs.

Assembly of the vehicle, which wasn't named, is set to begin in the last quarter of 2011. GM plans for it to "give long-term viability to this plant by gradually substituting some production volumes."

Lieblein said General Motors has invested $4.1 billion in Mexico over the last four years.

US taxpayers bailed out GM, next came the Volt, and now this is the payback.

On the bright side, at least there may be fewer Mexicans crossing the border.

Politicians finally hear the people say 'enough'

VOTERS in Australia and Britain have had their fill of out-of-control multiculturalism.

     AT first blush, Julia Gillard's volte-face over immigration would seem to be as unlikely as Osama bin Laden singing the Star Spangled Banner or Richard Dawkins taking holy orders.
     Here is a politician with a solid pedigree on the "anti-racist" Left rejecting former prime minister Kevin Rudd's call for a "Big Australia" formed by continuing large-scale immigration.
     Instead, Gillard has said she understands the anxieties of folk in western Sydney, western Melbourne or the Gold Coast growth corridor in Queensland.
     As for the boats of asylum-seekers, Gillard has made clear she wants to be even more effective in stopping them in order to protect "our sanctuary" and "the Australian way".
     In other words, Gillard is signalling that she sympathises with the concern that large-scale immigration and multiculturalism are threatening Australia's core values and identity, a position the Left denounces as bigotry.
     Consequently, Gillard's remarks have produced predictable cries of "racism" and "dog-whistling". So why has the new Labor leader ventured into this particular cultural minefield? The explanation is that something tumultuous is happening, not just in Australia but in Britain too, something so unusual that people are stumbling around in a state of stunned disorientation.
     It is that politicians are at last actually taking seriously what their electorates are saying to them about immigration and multiculturalism. This is that they will no longer put up with a policy which threatens to destroy their country's values and way of life, and will vote accordingly.

Lindsey Graham Meets With Obama White House to Plan Next Amnesty Bill

Back in January Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) was pushing cap-and-trade legislation with democrats. Now, the Republican senator is assisting the White House with amnesty for illegal aliens.

In 2007 while speaking to the radical La Raza organization, Graham said he was going to tell the “bigots” who opposed amnesty to “shut up.”

The LA Times reported:

Despite steep odds, the White House has discussed prospects for reviving a major overhaul of the nation’s immigration laws, a commitment that President Obama has postponed once already.

Obama took up the issue privately with his staff Monday in a bid to advance a bill through Congress before lawmakers become too distracted by approaching midterm elections.

In the session, Obama and members of his Domestic Policy Council outlined ways to resuscitate the effort in a White House meeting with two senators — Democrat Charles E. Schumer of New York and Republican Lindsey Graham of South Carolina – who have spent months trying to craft a bill.

According to a person familiar with the meeting, the White House may ask Schumer and Graham to at least produce a blueprint that could be turned into legislative language.

Read the rest here. We have been so focused on stopping healthcare some bads bills are slipping beneath the radar.  We need to be aware of what is happening and what is coming in the future.

Anti-Immigration Sentiment -- It's Not Racism. It's Math.

It's about how many people I want flooding my homeland. It's about whether a nation can be a nation without borders... (No, it cannot.) It's about the fact that we cannot support every person in the world who decides to they want to live in the United States. Just as England, France, Germany, India, Argentina... and even Mexico could and should not be expected to embrace every single person in the world who wants to move there.

Limited immigration has an important place in our country. Currently, there is virtually no limit. See the math in this simple video on YouTube.
