Late Term Abortions

If you listen to a debate on late term abortions the pro abortion people always say how infrequent they are.  They also indicate how safe the modern  abortion is. This article surely indicates that is defintely not the case.  This is from the Houston Chronicle.
2 abortion Drs. ordered to stop after Md. injury
by Kasey Jones

BALTIMORE — Maryland health officials have ordered two doctors to stop performing abortions after a woman was critically injured during a procedure last month.

The state Board of Physicians ordered Dr. Steven Brigham to stop practicing medicine without a license in Maryland and suspended the license of Dr. Nicola Riley. Police raided one of Brigham's offices in Elkton looking for medical records, and found dozens of late-term fetuses in a freezer at a clinic.

Riley and Brigham brought an injured 18-year-old woman in a personal vehicle to Union Hospital in Elkton after a failed abortion Aug. 13, according to the board's orders. The woman was then taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, where she was found to have a uterine perforation.

A Hopkins doctor filed a complaint against Riley, and along with a general surgeon, repaired the injuries to the woman.

Brigham owns American Women's Services, which has offices in several states.

The 18-year-old woman initially went to an American Women's Services office in New Jersey and met with Brigham on Aug. 12, according to the order. She returned the next day and was given pills to induce contractions, and told to drive 60 miles to the Elkton facility where the abortion would be performed.

Several days later, the Elkton police department, acting on a warrant for the woman's medical record, found a freezer with about 35 late-term fetuses. Elkton police didn't immediately return a telephone message Friday night.

Brigham is licensed in New Jersey, but not Maryland. Riley has a license in Maryland, but "poses a threat to her patients' safety and well-being and thereby represents a danger to the public," according to the board's order.

The board said Riley lives in Utah and flew to Maryland to work at the clinic.

A third doctor, George Shepard Jr., also had his license suspended. He ordered medications for AWS' Maryland facilities and knowingly took part in an arrangement in which abortions started in one state and patients were told to drive across state lines for completion of the procedure, the board said.

Voicemails left with Riley at her office in Utah and Brigham's office in New Jersey were not immediately returned Friday night. A message left for Shepard's lawyer was not immediately returned.
This article pretty well proves the case thatabortion is a huge business and has the full support of  most of the liberals.

Feds will pay for abortions three ways in the O's bill

According to a post in Weekly Standard bog by John McCormack
President Obama's health care plan would use federal dollars to pay for abortions in at least three ways.
First, it contains Ben Nelson's so-called compromise amendment in which allows insurance plans purchased with federal subsidies to cover abortions. Nelson's amendment doesn't apply to the whole bill, so there are two other provisions that would allow direct federal funding of abortion.
The National Right to Life Committee notes that Obama's plan would provide $11 billion dollars for community health centers--$4 billion more than the original Senate bill--and there is no language preventing these funds from paying for abortions.
Third, the Senate bill allows for direct federal funding of abortions on Indian reservations.
All three of these measures were slipped into the Senate bill at the last minute in the manager's amendment. Ben Nelson admitted that the funding of abortions on Indian reservations was an oversight that would "have to be addressed in the conference." Except now there isn't going to be a conference--just a House vote on the Senate bill and some minor fiddling with the numbers through reconciliation with no significant changes to the abortion language.
Members of Congress liked to hide behind the fig leaf of Nelson's "segregation of funding" amendment to claim the bill banned abortion funding, but they can't make this claim regarding community health centers or Indian reservations.
What else is in there? I will try to keep up with it and let you know.

Sick, Sick, Sick, late term abortions

Abortion Practitioner Admits "Yes I Am" Killing Unborn Children During Abortions    by Steven Ertelt

Dallas, TX (LifeNews.com) -- The late-term abortion practitioner at the new abortion center in Dallas has admitted in a shocking interview that he kills unborn children during abortions. Curtis Boyd is one of the few abortion practitioners to admit what he is doing, but he has no qualms with his job.

Boyd opened the first abortion center in Dallas in 1973 after the Supreme Court handed down the roe v. Wade decision allowing virtually unlimited abortions.

Stumbling governors spell trouble for Dems according to Michael Barone at Townhall.com
With polls showing a drop in Barack Obama's job rating and sinking support for the Democrats' health care plans, there is evidence of collateral damage where you might not expect to find it: in the standing of Democratic governors. Pennsylvania's Ed Rendell suddenly is getting negative job ratings in both the Quinnipiac University and the Franklin & Marshall College polls -- his lowest marks in seven years as governor. Ohio's Ted Strickland, who has spent most of his first term working amicably with Republican legislators, scores less than 50 percent in the latest Quinnipiac poll and has only tenuous leads over two Republicans, John Kasich and Mike DeWine, who may run against him next year.
An interesting read on the coming elections.
Congressional Health Care Not Free- from Cleveland Plain Dealer
Reuben Grossberg of Pepper Pike, a structural engineer and former project manager for an architectural firm, certainly thought it was true, arguably with good reason, because Congress has done almost nothing to knock it down.
"I want the same quality of health care as the politicians get, and I don't want to have to pay any more for it," Grossberg, 63, said in an interview last week when President Barack Obama was flying to Cleveland and Congress struggled to craft a trillion-dollar health reform package.

Problem is, the belief that Congress gets cheap-but-Cadillac-quality health benefits is a myth. Some members of Congress, in fact, pay higher premiums for their health plans than they would if privately employed. Read it all to get the whole story, they do pay premiums, sometimes very high premiums.

The Abortion Debate - Slate has an article I'm not sure how to take.
I notice they quote themselves quite often and that is okay.... but it is also opinion. Read it and see what you think. It is titled Culture of Death - the rightwing assault on abortion reduction. I have a nephew who is adopting a yet to be born baby, just so you know where I come down on a lot of this.

A new fault line has opened in the abortion debate. The fight is no longer between pro-lifers and pro-choicers. It's between militants and pragmatists. While some extremists have been raising hell and shooting doctors, pragmatists have been hashing out common-ground legislation. Their latest bill, introduced Thursday, is the Preventing Unintended Pregnancies, Reducing the Need for Abortion, and Supporting Parents Act. If that sounds like a jumble of ideas from both sides, it's because lots of bargaining went into it. Among other things, pro-choicers got money for contraception and sex education. Pro-lifers got abstinence-friendly curriculum, a bigger adoption tax credit, and financial support for women who continue their pregnancies.

When Does Life Begin?

National Review has an article that discusses this issue. It begins with this:
For people who advocate the killing of embryonic human beings in the cause of biomedical research, the Holy Grail is an argument that would definitively establish that the human embryo, at least early in its development, is not a living human organism and therefore not a human being at all. The problem for these advocates is that all the scientific evidence points in precisely the opposite direction. Modern human embryology and developmental biology have shown that fertilization produces a new and distinct organism: a living individual of the human species in the embryonic stage of his or her development.
