State Control, Who Wants it?

The Wall Street Journal has a series of articles today commemorating the fall of the Berlin Wall.
In light of the current administration in Washington's actions with regards to freedom of speech, thugishness, and the thousand fold growth of government, this quote stood out for me:
Ms. Muhlak says she was fed up with state control and police surveillance. "I didn't flee because everything was so great in the West, so bright and shiny. I just couldn't bear it anymore in East Germany," she says.
No, things are certainly not perfect in the west, but the freedoms we enjoy in this country, the United States of America, are beyond anything enjoyed anywhere in the rest of the world. Really. For a generation of Americans to throw those freedoms away on the hope of government wrought change is infantile. Do you want government cheese? I don't.
